Longevity Iced Matcha Latte Recipe by Leslie Kenny

Iced Matcha Longevity Latte | Oxford Healthspan

Step 1: Start with Your Primeadine

Choose your formula:

Step 2: Crush or Open

Primeadine GF:

Place the tablets into a small bowl and crush them into a fine powder with a pestle and mortar (or use a pill crusher if you have one!) Once well crushed, transfer to your Matcha bowl.

This allows it to dissolve well into your drink, creating a smooth texture - you don’t want to end up with a lumpy latte!

Primeadine Original:

For Primeadine Original capsules, you can skip the pestle and mortar step and simply open the capsules and empty the powder contents into the bowl. If you have Primeadine Original Powder, just add a 1/2 teaspoon to your matcha bowl.

Step 3: Whisk the Matcha

In your matcha bowl:

  • Add ½ a teaspoon of high-quality ceremonial-grade matcha (for maximum longevity benefit).
  • Pour in a small amount of hot (but not quite boiling) water.
  • Whisk confidently using a bamboo Chasen until the matcha becomes frothy.

This moment of whisking is your pause - a mindful moment to connect with your body, your intention, and the tradition behind this ancient green elixir.

Chasen: A traditional Japanese bamboo whisk used to prepare matcha by blending the powder with water into a smooth, frothy consistency. It’s an essential tool in the Japanese tea ceremony that helps create the signature creamy texture of well-made matcha.

Step 4: Combine and Take a Breath

  • Add your prepared Primeadine Powder to your now frothy matcha
  • Whisk again to fully incorporate
  • Pour the mixture over ice and top up with cold water, almond milk, oat milk, or your preferred chilled base

Optional Ingredients for Taste:

  • A teaspoon of raw honey
  • A pinch of salt

Step 5: Enjoy in the Sun

An important step with all the free Vitamin D the sun is offering up this Summer, take your iced matcha outside. Sip it slowly, let the sun warm your skin as both the matcha and the spermidine work their magic!

Why not make this part of your Summertime daily longevity ritual?

A Bit of Background

Matcha has been at the heart of Japanese wellness traditions for over 800 years, as not just a drink but a holistic practice. Introduced by Zen Buddhist monks in the 12th century, matcha became a staple of meditation rituals, valued for its ability to promote alert calmness (thanks to the unique pairing of caffeine and L-theanine [1]).

Over time, it evolved into the Japanese tea ceremony, or chanoyu [2]: a deeply intentional ritual rooted in mindfulness, respect, and harmony. In this ceremonial context, preparing and drinking matcha is about a combination of both nourishment and presence. Every step, from scooping the powder to whisking it with a Chasen, is designed to bring you into the moment. This fusion of body and mind awareness is one of the key reasons matcha is a popular drink choice today - not simply for its flavour and beauty, but for how it makes you feel.

And now, science is catching up with this ancient wisdom, as you can likely gather from the matcha trends across social media!

The Science-Backed Benefits of Matcha

Antioxidant Action: Catechins, particularly EGCG

Catechins are a type of polyphenol, which are natural plant compounds known for their powerful antioxidant properties. Found abundantly in tea - especially green tea and matcha - catechins help protect cells from damage caused by oxidative stress and inflammation.

The standout compound in matcha is epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) [3], a type of catechin known for its strong antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects. Together with other catechins, it helps:

  • Fight oxidative stress by neutralising free radicals
  • Reduce inflammation
  • Support heart health and metabolic function
  • Enhance fat burning

Calm Focus: L-Theanine + Caffeine

Matcha’s unique edge comes from its balance of L-theanine and caffeine. L-theanine, an amino acid found abundantly in matcha thanks to special growing methods, promotes a state of calm alertness - relaxed but focused [4].  Combined with caffeine, it provides:

  • Smooth, sustained energy without jitters
  • Enhanced mental clarity and focus
  • Support for alpha brain waves - linked to meditative calm and creativity

Detoxifying & Nourishing Compounds

Beyond antioxidants and amino acids, matcha is rich in other plant nutrients [5,6]:

Chlorophyll: Supports detoxification and adds to its antioxidant effects.

Polyphenols & Flavonoids: Protect cells from damage and may support brain and heart health.

Vitamins & Minerals: Includes vitamin C, A, K, and essential minerals like potassium and magnesium - important for immunity, energy, and overall vitality.

Dietary Fibre: Rare for a beverage, matcha’s fiber helps support digestion and balanced blood sugar.

The Secret Matcha Advantage

Because you consume the whole leaf, matcha gives you a concentrated dose of antioxidants, nutrients, and fibre - far beyond what you get from steeped tea. It’s why matcha is considered one of the most complete, functional drinks for energy, clarity, and long-term wellness!

Why Add Primeadine to Your Matcha?

Spermidine naturally occurs in many traditional Japanese foods, most notably natto, a fermented soybean dish revered for its health-promoting properties. The Okinawan diet, famous for being one of the world’s most longevity-rich dietary traditions, is also rich in spermidine-containing foods. In fact, the spermidine used in Primeadine GF is food-derived and sourced directly from the Okinawa region of Japan, a place where healthy centenarians are not the exception, but the norm. This makes Primeadine not only scientifically grounded with its own unique longevity benefits, but also deeply rooted in the same Japanese philosophy of wellness that values nourishment, and balance the way matcha does... so why not combine the two?
